Fuck Apple and their buggy software. If your Mac has been locked in with a 169.254.x.x IP and ignores any advanced attempts to ask for a valid IP try this one:
1. shutdown the built-in firewall (allow all&everyone)
2. restart your interfaces
3. restart the built-in firewall
So obviously stupid, it's like asking "Did you try turning it off and on again?" -- actually it's turning "it off & on again". Oh dear.
If this doesn't do the trick, you can still waste some hours reading man pages for bootpd(8), learning to understand /System-plists and do a major internet search on the key words "169.254.x.x", "force release", "fuck", "fuck apple", "fuck *bsd" and "fuck midgets^w"
